Chemical Properties:
colourless to yellow oily liquid with a bitter almond odour
Liquid; colorless or pale yellow; bitter almond odor. Sinks and mixes slowly in water.
Usage:
Salicylaldehyde is a spice, is also a very wide range of organic synthesis intermediates. In drug synthesis commonly used in the synthesis of salicylic acid hydrazine (Salinazid), benzbromarone (Benzbromarone) and acetaminophenoxone.
Manufacture:
By phenol and chloroform in sodium hydroxide solution obtained. Improved preparation method is o-cresol and phosphorus oxychloride or phosgene reaction, and then obtained by hydrolysis. Salicylic acid can also be reduced by electrolysis or by salicylic acid halide catalytic reduction in the system.
