Description:
Soda lime, also known as sodium lime, white or beige powder, porous, is calcium oxide (CaO, about 75%), water (H2O, about 20%), sodium hydroxide (NaOH, about 3%), and hydroxide Potassium (KOH, about 1%).
Usage:
1. Used as analytical reagent and carbon dioxide absorbent
2. As a desiccant and carbon dioxide absorbent
Mainly as a desiccant (in which the role of calcium oxide to dry), can be used to dry neutral gases such as oxygen, can also be used for drying alkaline gas ammonia. At the same time can also be used to absorb acid gases, such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide. If only sodium hydroxide is present, the desiccant can not be used at higher temperatures because sodium hydroxide can react with the most commonly used glass instruments in the laboratory (mainly silica) to corrode the instrument. Laboratory to take a small amount of methane can be soda lime and sodium acetate (sodium acetate) were hot, sodium carbonate and methane generation.
Carbonate heating decomposition can produce CO2, only (NH4) 2CO3 or NH4HCO3, the decomposition of the resulting mixture of gas through the soda lime, CO2 and H2O are absorbed, can be purified NH3. (From the drying effect)
The use of its dry gas impurity removal can be achieved, such as NH3 (H2O)
Soda lime can also remove SO₂, H₂S, HCl, CO₂ and other acidic gases
