Application: it can be used to measure the free radical scavenging activity of antioxidants. The odd-numbered electrons of the nitrogen atom in DPPH are reduced to the corresponding hydrazine by absorbing a hydrogen atom from the antioxidant. The DPPH method can be used in both aqueous and non-polar organic solvents and can be used to examine both hydrophilic and lipophilic antioxidants.
