Description:
Donepezil, also called Aricept, a centrally acting reversible acetyl cholinesterase inhibitor that the FDA has also approved for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. It readily crosses the blood-brain barrier to reduce the breakdown of acetylcholine by increasing the concentration of acetylcholine through reversible inhibition of its hydrolysis by acetylcholinesterase.
