It gradually decomposes in case of water or ethanol to generate benzene (form) acid or ethyl benzene (form) acid and hydrogen chloride. Soluble in ether, chloroform and benzene. Commonly used as organic synthesis, dyes and pharmaceutical raw materials, manufacturing initiators such as benzoyl peroxide pesticides and herbicides. It is also an important benzoylation and benzylation reagent. Most of benzoyl chloride is used to produce benzoyl peroxide, followed by important chemical raw materials such as benzophenone, benzyl benzoate and benzamide. It is also used in photography and in the production of artificial tannic acid.
