Propyl p-hydroxybenzoate is an organic compound with the molecular formula C10H12O3. Colorless small crystals or white powder. Almost insoluble in cold water. Odorless and slightly astringent. Esterification of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and n-propanol in the presence of sulfuric acid, followed by neutralization, water washing, spin drying, and refinement to obtain the final product. Mainly used as a preservative in food, cosmetics, feed, etc. When used in combination with ethyl p-hydroxybenzoate, it can improve corrosion resistance and solubility.
It has a wide range of antibacterial effects on fungi, yeast, and bacteria, and its antibacterial effect is greater than that of ethyl paraben. It was used as a food preservative in the production of soy sauce and Pickled vegetables.
Cosmetic preservatives. Belongs to phenolic preservatives. Add 0.1% -1.0%. Usually used in combination with butyl nipagin, it has good additive and synergistic properties.
