Safety: A poison. Fumes are highly injurious to the eyes and mucous membranes. Handle in hood only. Flammable by chemical reaction with reducing agents. A powerful oxidizing agent. The liquid explodes above 106°C. Explosive reaction with hydriodic acid, charcoal, ethanol, cellulose fibers, other organic materials, sulfur. Violent reaction or ignition with ammonia. Vigorous reaction with phosphorus tribromide. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of RuOx. See also RUTHENIUM COMPOUNDS.
