Chimica Pomponesco S.p.A, based in Pomponesco (MN), has been a producer of formaldehyde and derivative resins for the industry dealing with particleboard, plywood, furniture, etc for over 30 years. Chimica Pomponesco S.p.A is an integral part of Frati Group and has been developing an in-depth experience in the utilization of different plants for production of raw and melamine particleboard, plywood, MDF, using multi and mono-opening, through-feed and bending presses. It is, therefore, able to furnish its various customers with a more appropriate and qualified product and service. Chimica Pomponesco S.p.A started its business in 1976 with the construction of its first production plant of formaldehyde (for methanol catalytic oxidation) with capacity of 30,000 tons per year at 36% and appropriate surge-tanks for production of polycondensation resins based on urea-formaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde, that are mainly used for glues for particleboards, plywood and for impregnation of decorative paper. The company develops technologies and productivity ‘know-how’ in-house. By the end of 70’s they doubled the production capacity of formaldehyde and resins (60,000 tons per year at 36%); in 1985 they commenced construction of the second formaldehyde plant (increasing the total capacity to 200,000 tons per year) and of four surge-tanks with a capacity of 60 c.m. each for production of derivative resins, they furthermore directed their efforts forward to the attainment of low-loose-formaldehyde products that can be used for the manufacturing of panels and plywood according to E1, CARB, F**** class. In 1997 they built the Impregnation department and commenced production of impregnated decorative papers for melamine panels; as at today this department is equipped with four production lines. In 2000 they built their third formaldehyde plant, increasing production capacity to 280,000 tons per year at 36%. By continually developing new technology and in-house ‘know-how’ these entirely automated and computerised plants have become sector leaders in Europe.
