Description
Sodium alginate is the sodium form of alginate. Alginate is a linear, anionic polysaccharide consisting of two form of 1, 4-linked hexuronic acid residues, β-d-mannuronopyranosyl (M) and α-l- guluronopyranosyl (G) residues. It can be arranged in the form of blocks of repeating M residues (MM blocks), blocks of repeating G residues (GG blocks), and blocks of mixed M and G residues (MG blocks). Commercially available alginate currently originates from algae. Alginate has wide applications. For example, one of its most important role is being used as wound dressing materials for the treatment of acute or chronic wounds. The use of alginate crosslinking to make hydrogels for cell encapsulation is also quite valuable. The emergence of various kinds of its derivatives recently has further extended its application.
Applications
Sodium alginate can be used as a flavorless gum. It is used by the foods industry to increase viscosity and as an emulsifier. It is also used in indigestion tablets and the preparation of dental impressions.
Sodium alginate (NaAlg) and its modified forms have been widely used as membranes in pervaporation (PV) separation of aqueous‐organic solutions because of the hydrophilic nature and versatility to modify/tune their structures to achieve the desired separation.
Sodium alginate is a polymer which can be extracted from brown seaweed and kelps. It is one of the structural polymers that help to build the cell walls of these plants. It has some unusual properties and a wide variety of uses.

Discretion:
Sodium alginate and alginate sodium, sodium alginate, sodium alginate, alginate gel, sodium alginate, kelp. The main component is sodium alginate, chitosan is a mixture of acid. Is a kind of gum extracted from brown algae such as kelp. White or light yellow powder, odorless, tasteless, moisture absorption, the relative density of 1.59 87.39kg/m3, bulk density, moisture content 13%, ash 23%, black to 150 degrees Celsius temperature, carbonization temperature of 340 degrees Celsius (460 degrees), ashing temperature of 480 DEG C, the heat of combustion of 10.46J/g, insoluble in ethanol, ether or chloroform etc.. Soluble in hot water and cold water, 1% aqueous solution pH value of 6 ~ 8, can form a viscous colloidal solution, and with protein, starch, pectin, Arabia gum, carboxymethyl cellulose, sucrose, glycerol and sorbitol blends. Dilute acid insoluble in pH less than 3. When the pH is 6 ~ 9, its viscosity is stable, heated to 80 degrees Celsius above its viscosity drop.
Application:
Polymer material, sodium alginate is suspending, thickening, emulsifying, adhesive and so on, in medicine is mainly used as a suspending agent, emulsifier, viscous agent, microcapsule capsule material etc.. As tablet binder (1% ~ 3%) and disintegrating agent (2.5% ~ 10%); used as a diluent in capsules; also used for the preparation of oral sustained-release preparation, because it can delay the drug from the aqueous suspension of release; in the paste, ointment and gel is widely used as a thickening agent and suspending agent (5% ~ 10%), and as a stabilizer in oil in water emulsions (1% ~ 3%) use. 0.5% ~ 2.5% aqueous solution can be used to smooth the skin erosion surface, can make the water discharge and drying out.
