LyondellBasell at Fos-sur-Mer Caban is an integrated site that propylene oxide product (PO) of tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), propylene glycol and methyl ether (or ethyl) tert butyl ( MTBE or ETBE). These products are components of consumer goods such as clothing, cleaning products, building materials or green fuels.

Part of propylene oxide (PO) Fos is converted into polyols in an operating unit which is now owned by Covestro. The polyols used in the manufacture of polyurethane foams for many applications including furniture and car seats. The PO is also used for the production of propylene glycols, commodity chemical which enters the composition of unsaturated polyester resins, humectants for the food and tobacco as well as solvents for applications in cosmetology. TBA, co-product of PO is converted into MTBE or bio ETBE (for biofuels), oxygenated components that provide the fuel octane.

The site of Fos Caban is located on the Mediterranean coast, some 70 kilometers from Marseille. The industrial site, whose launch was in 1988, covers more than 60 hectares.
