The Chemicals segment focuses on the preservation and development of BASF's Production Verbund. Our unique Verbund system of highly integrated production sites offers significant competitive advantages. The main factors contributing to the success of this segment are operational and technological excellence, economies of scale, integration and availability of raw materials, reliable logistics at low cost and reduced complexity.
Intermediates
The BASF Group develops, manufactures and markets around the world about 700 intermediates. The main product of this division include amines, diols, polyalcohols, acids and specialty chemicals. Intermediates are used for example as starting material for coatings, plastics, pharmaceuticals, textile fibers, detergents and crop protection products. Innovative intermediate products of BASF contribute to the improvement of the properties of the final product and to the efficiency of the production process.
Monomers
The Monomers division provides a broad range of monomers in large volumes, based polymers and inorganic chemicals. The main products are MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate), TDI (toluene diisocyanate), caprolactam, adipic acid, polyamide 6 and 6.6, ammonia, nitric acid, sulfur and chlorine products, inorganic salts, urea, melamine, glues and impregnating resins as well as specialty chemicals such as electronic materials.
Petrochemische stoffen
Door het stoomkraken van nafta of aardgas worden producten als ethyleen, propyleen, butadieen en benzeen vervaardigd. Op basis van deze stoffen produceren we alcoholen, solventen en weekmakers voor de chemische en kunststoffenindustrie. Alkyleenoxiden en glycolen zijn de basisstoffen voor reinigingsmiddelen en voor de auto-, verpakkings- en textielindustrie. Acrylmonomeren worden gebruikt voor de productie van verfstoffen, coatings en cosmetica, en voor het vervaardigen van chemicaliën voor oliewinning, voor de bouw en voor de papiersector. Met het oog op specifieke klantennoden kunnen onze gespecialiseerde monomeren perfect worden ingepast in de waardeketen voor acrylaten en methacrylaten.
Catalysts
Chemicals are made possible thanks to catalysts. Our catalysts are an essential and strategic part of the chemical processing technology. Catalysis is a process in which the rate of a chemical reaction is increased by a specific combination of catalysts. Any heterogeneous catalyst is specific to a given process, and can be adapted to provide certain pre-defined end results: reaction or process speed, improved product properties and the selectivity of the final products. The appropriate catalyst choose a process is a decisive factor for the success or failure of it. Catalysts play a crucial role in 90% of all commercially produced chemical products. |
